Jimkata’s whole appeal is hard to explain before you’ve seen them and obvious after — electro-rock that hits like a dance party, guitar riffs sharp enough to cut through the four-on-the-floor pulse, and a live show described as emotional and unpredictable. On Friday, October 9, they bring all of that to Middle Ages Beer Hall in Syracuse for the 10-year anniversary of In Motion.
About the Show
Evan Friedell, Aaron Gorsch, and Packy Lunn have been friends since middle school, turned house party gigs into club dates and festival stages, and recently welcomed bassist Cooper Casterline back to round out a full quartet. In Motion, released February 12, 2016, is the record that drew the widest attention: Popdose gave it a “RECOMMENDED” rating and called out the band’s “strong sense of melody and song structure,” their “organic chemistry,” and a sound that “proves that rock-based music still has a place in the world of four-on-the-floor beats.” American Songwriter and Relix covered the band as well. The album pulls from Motown warmth, singer-songwriter craft, and classic country, all filtered through a modern electronic core: “soaring guitar riffs, infectious grooves and soul-stirring lyrics.”
The anniversary is the occasion, but Jimkata is not coasting on 2016. Running in Place arrived in September 2024, and the single “Coyotes” dropped in January 2026. They’ve been active on the festival circuit: Peach Music Festival, Gathering of the Vibes, and Adirondack Independence Music Festival are all on the résumé, and 2026 alone has included stops in Lake George and Buffalo alongside this Syracuse date. The Middle Ages Beer Hall show sits right in the middle of their fall run.
Opening the night is The New Service, a Syracuse-based four-piece formerly known as Pop Culture. Their rock fusion approach blends improvisation with composed arrangements and funky originals, a natural lead-in for the energy Jimkata brings once they take the stage.
Venue & Logistics
Middle Ages Beer Hall is part of Middle Ages Brewing Company, the oldest brewery in Syracuse. Locally owned and operating for more than 30 years, the taproom keeps up to 24 beers on tap, and the Music Hall side runs ticketed shows every Friday and Saturday night, one of the steadier live music anchors in central New York. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; the show runs 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
