Genitorturers do not soften the billing — the Live + Lewd Tour is exactly what it says it is. For more than three decades, frontwoman Gen has led the band through industrial metal and explicit performance art that earns the name. That package arrives at Empire Underground on Saturday, October 17.
About the Show
Genitorturers formed in Orlando in the late 1980s, emerging from the same Florida hardcore circuit that produced Marilyn Manson and the Spooky Kids. In 1993, Miles Copeland of IRS Records signed the band after his assistant witnessed a live performance; the result was the debut album “120 Days of Genitorture.” Morbid Angel bassist David Vincent (Gen’s husband) joined in 1995.
The band describes its sound as “aggressive rock, seductive metal and underground electric pop” and has been called “agents provocateur of the underground hard rock and industrial metal scenes.” The comparisons that stick are Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails, and Alice Cooper. Their most recent studio album is “Blackheart Revolution” (2009), co-produced by David Vincent and Scott Humphrey. They have appeared on VH1, HBO, and Playboy TV, and the British feature film “Preaching to the Perverted” documented the band. The track “Lecher Bitch” landed in the video game “Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.” The devoted fanbase, called GENHEADS, travels to multiple shows per tour.
Live, Genitorturers lean into the provocateur label fully: the performances incorporate BDSM-themed imagery and explicit performance art that has drawn coverage from well beyond the metal press. It is not shock for its own sake — it is a consistent aesthetic the band has maintained since the early 1990s, through extensive touring across the U.S., Europe, and Japan. The fanbase that has followed them for decades would tell you the show is the point.
The Live + Lewd Tour runs 17 dates across four countries: UK, Ireland, the United States, and Canada. It launched in the UK in late September and wraps October 31 in Winter Park, Florida. Albany falls between Clifton, NJ (Oct. 16) and Ottawa, ON (Oct. 20) on the North American leg.
Venue & Logistics
Empire Underground is at 93 N Pearl St in Albany, part of the Capital Region rock and metal circuit. The venue opened in 2021 and focuses on rock, metal, alternative, and indie. It is cashless: major credit cards, debit cards, and mobile payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay) only. Show time is 6:30 p.m. Early arrival is recommended for security screening. Default age policy: 16-plus unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian 21 or older.
