Keller Williams at Waterhole Music Lounge | October 2, 2026

By Nate Calloway · July 16, 2026

There is a specific kind of attention that settles into a room when Keller Williams starts building a song from nothing — the first guitar loop dropped, a bass line layered in, drum samples clicking underneath until the whole thing locks and the room, almost without deciding to, starts to move. Williams has been calling this approach “acoustic dance music” since his 1994 debut, FREEK, and the label still earns its keep: one man, an acoustic guitar, a looping rig, and a synthesizer constructing something that, by all logic, should require a full band and somehow does not. He brings the solo show to Waterhole Music Lounge in Saranac Lake on Friday, October 2.

About the Show

The Virginia-based musician performs under at least 16 distinct named configurations — Grateful Grass, DeadPettyKellerGrass, Keller & The Keels, and more — pulling threads of rock, jazz, funk, and bluegrass together without making the stitching visible. His album titles have run consistently to single syllables, which feels like either a philosophy or a running joke, and possibly both. Jambands.com has called him a “gleefully iconoclastic jam innovator,” which is accurate without quite capturing how deliberate and unhurried the experience can feel in a room where you are watching the layers build in real time. The solo set strips that process down to its essentials: just Williams, the guitar, and the loops he constructs and discards in front of you.

His recent output has been characteristically busy. Grateful Grass (Live), recorded March 14, 2026 at the Bluegrass Hall of Fame and Museum in Owensboro, Kentucky and released July 21, 2026, captures that collaborative project in a venue built for it. He also released a surprise album, Purps, on October 31, 2025, and put out a 20th Anniversary Deluxe Vinyl Edition of Laugh. With 32 dates on the calendar through January 2027, the fall run that brings him to Saranac Lake spans the country.
