Kurt Vile is calling “Chance to Bleed” — his lead single, cut with Memphis collaborators — “hillbilly techno,” which is either the most accurate genre description of 2026 or an elegant refusal of the whole concept. The KV’s Been Good to Me Tour lands at Asbury Hall at Babeville in Buffalo on Wednesday, November 4, behind his 10th studio album Philadelphia’s been good to me, with Twisted Teens opening.
About the Show
Philadelphia’s been good to me arrived May 29, 2026 on Verve Records, following 2022’s (watch my moves). Vile made the bulk of it in his own Mt. Airy basement studio in northwestern Philadelphia, with additional sessions in Memphis, Los Angeles, and Athens. He’s described the process as a return to instinct: “I’ve been waiting for that kinda natural element to show up again,” he said, “like the old home recording days.” The record is analog-heavy and guitar-forward; Vile calls it his “best vocal record” and his “most organic record, made in the comfort of my own zone,” and has said he treated it “like my last record.” Collaborators include Rob Schnapf, Adam Langellotti, Matthew Jugenheimer, Kyle Spence, and Jesse Trbovrich. The title track pays homage to Tom Petty. The barn-burning “Chance to Bleed,” built with Memphis musicians and filed as “hillbilly techno,” is the album’s lead single. The KV’s Been Good to Me Tour has been on the road since June 2026, covering North American, European, and UK dates; Buffalo falls in the November US leg.
Twisted Teens open. The New Orleans duo (Caspian Halliwell and RJ Santos) have had a strong 2026: Blame the Clown, released on Chain Smoking Records in January, earned Pitchfork’s Best New Music designation (8.2/10), described as “garage punk with an old-school country twang.” They released “Florida Water Blues” later in the year and signed to Sub Pop in August. The booking makes sense — both acts work in the space where punk instinct and country sensibility collide, and Twisted Teens are worth arriving early for.
