Strawberry Girls plays instrumental math-rock that sounds like BADBADNOTGOOD and CHON decided to write together: groove-heavy, technically precise, and better loud than quiet. The California trio’s fall 2026 headlining run stops at Buffalo’s Mohawk Place on Thursday, Nov. 12, with Andrés opening. If you’ve spent time with Tasmanian Glow, you know that Andrés isn’t just filling the support slot. He’s on the record.
About the Show
Strawberry Girls is a three-piece from Salinas, California: guitarist Zachary Garren (formerly of Dance Gavin Dance), drummer Ben Rosett, and bassist Ian Jennings. Their sound lives between math-rock precision and pure groove — “crunchy riffage coated in complexity, originality and infectiousness,” as one early write-up put it. They have shared stages with CHON, mewithoutYou, and The Contortionist, a span of touring partners that signals how wide their reach runs.
Their fourth album, Tasmanian Glow (2019), was a deliberate turn: shorter songs, more accessible hooks, a production approach that pulled from hip-hop and R&B without leaving the progressive core behind. Garren framed the goal plainly: “I want the riffs to get stuck in your head.” The album runs from the hard-charging opener “Bay of Fires” to the closer “Party Nights,” which features Andrés on vocals — the headliner-opener connection baked into the record, not assembled for this tour. Their fifth album, Prussian Gloom, came out in 2022. The current fall run covers 16 cities, with the Buffalo date landing between a Brooklyn show on Nov. 11 and Lakewood, Ohio on Nov. 13.
Andrés (Andrés Aparicio, originally from Bakersfield, now based in Orange County) blends pop, jazz, rock, and Latin influences and has previously opened for The Fall of Troy. His most recent album is Once Upon a Time in Bakersfield. Songkick tracks 34 joint shows between these two acts; this is a running partnership.
Venue & Logistics
In Western New York, Mohawk Place at 47 E. Mohawk St., Buffalo, has been back in operation for just over a year. Owners Bernice Radle and Frank DiMaria purchased the building in March 2025, stopping a developer who planned to demolish it for a parking lot, then put months of work into new electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and stage repairs before launching in October 2025 with an inaugural Florist show. Doors are at 7 p.m.; the show starts at 8 p.m.
