Here is what gets me about Young Fresh Fellows: they have been doing this for over four decades and they still sound like they have something to prove. Seattle’s indie rock lifers bring their new album Loft to Troy on Saturday, October 17, 2026 — showtime at 8:00 PM at The Hangar on the Hudson — and if you are anywhere in the Capital District that night, this is worth your evening.
About Young Fresh Fellows
The Young Fresh Fellows debuted in 1984 with The Fabulous Sounds of the Pacific Northwest and have been one of indie rock’s most reliably rewarding bands ever since. The current lineup has credentials worth noting: Scott McCaughey (vocals, guitar) is also behind The Minus 5, The Baseball Project, and was an adjunct member of R.E.M. Kurt Bloch (lead guitar) is a founding Fastbacks member. Jim Sangster (bass) plays with the Tripwires and tours with Mudhoney. John Perrin (drums) has time with NRBQ and the JD McPherson band on his résumé. Four people who could each be headlining their own shows — and they chose to make one together.
Their latest, Loft (Yep Roc, March 2026), came out of a single day off during their 40th-anniversary tour. They walked into Wilco’s Loft studio in Chicago and recorded 11 songs in about eight hours, with Grammy Award-winning producer Tom Schick at the board and guests including Neko Case, Peter Buck, and John Stirratt. PopMatters gave it 7/10: “loose, witty, and restless four decades after their genre-shaping debut.” That is a pretty good reason to show up.
The Venue
The Hangar on the Hudson is an outdoor/covered event space at 675 River Street in Troy, NY — 300 capacity, right in the heart of the Capital District. A room this size is how you see a band this good up close. It is also an outdoor venue in mid-October upstate New York, so plan for layers. Check hangaronthehudson.com for any event-night details before you leave the house. Troy is a short drive from Albany, and River Street is worth getting to early.
Tickets
The show runs 8:00 PM to 11:30 PM. No support acts are listed. Tickets are available here — at 300 capacity, do not sit on this one.
