Winyah has spent the last two years turning a South Carolina beach-bar following into a national touring career, and their debut album Lot To Learn — now past 13 million streams — explains why it happened fast. On Friday, November 13, the Nashville-based five-piece brings their Southern-grit-meets-indie-rock sound to Buffalo Iron Works, with San Diego’s Foxtide opening.
About the Show
The band’s story starts on Pawleys Island in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Frontman Thomas Rowland got his first guitar lessons from a local musician who, years later, caught a Rowland cover on Spotify and rekindled the connection. What followed: late nights at a local bar, lines out the door, and a five-piece named after Winyah Bay that eventually relocated to Nashville. Guitarist Luke Gordon has described the Lowcountry roots as shaping the music: “calm and beautiful, but also chaotic and forever changing.” The lineup is Rowland on vocals, Gordon on lead guitar, Stephen “Stevo” Russell, Robert Buffington Jr., and Jacob Riley.
Their music threads southern swagger with indie-rock bite; the band calls it “the soundtrack to late-night drives and carefree adventures.” Lot To Learn landed tracks on Spotify’s “Fresh Finds Indie” playlist and Apple Music’s “New in Alternative” and “New in Rock” lists, and Winyah now carries over 715,000 monthly Spotify listeners. Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza appearances followed, along with support runs alongside Dogpark, Red Clay Strays, Moon Taxi, and The Vegabonds. They have 32 tour dates booked through the end of 2026, spanning the United States, United Kingdom, and Ireland, with a sophomore album currently in development.
Foxtide opens. The San Diego quartet (Elijah Gibbons, Orion James, Riley Conway, and Dom Friedly) draws from Beach Fossils, The Strokes, and Yellow Days, and their second full-length, Entropy, is out now on Position Music.
Venue & Logistics
Buffalo Iron Works, at 49 Illinois St in Buffalo, holds 500 and is the kind of western New York club room built for a show like this one. It’s the right size for where Winyah is right now: close enough to feel the energy, not so large it dissipates. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; show starts at 8:00 p.m. This is an 18+ event.
