Ecce Shnak calls what they do “Chamber Punk” — one part pop, one part classical, one part punk — and that three-part frame only begins to account for a five-piece whose reference points run from Gogol Bordello and Bad Brains to Björk and the Roots. The NYC collective, formed in 2011, brings that genre collision to Mohawk Place on Wednesday, November 18.
About the Show
Ecce Shnak (pronounced “Eh-kay sh-knock”) is seven stops into a nine-date East Coast run (November 11–20, 2026) built around previewing Dandy Variances, their forthcoming album due early 2027 on Records Man Records. The lineup is David Roush (composer, bassist, baritone vocals), Bella Komodromos (vocals), Chris Krasnow and Gannon Ferrell (guitars), and Henry Buchanan-Vaughn (drums), a five-piece that reviewers have described as carrying “art-rock swagger, grunge muscle and a distinctly theatrical sense of scale.”
Singles already circulating from Dandy Variances include “Vincent” — Roush describes it as a “mid-tempo, jumpy, flash-in-the-pan hardcore song” pairing classical vocals with frenetic instrumentation, originating from a 2015 Temple University film project — plus “Eddie, Legalistic Homeslice” and “Anna O.” That last track is built around a poem by Roush’s mother, features Komodromos as a character described as “a woman trapped in an asylum,” and received additional mixing from Grammy Award-winning producer Mario McNulty. The band puts their general subject matter plainly on Bandcamp: “love, sex, death, change, bravery, and food.”
Press coverage describes Dandy Variances as a record that moves through emotional registers, opening in “lighthearted, playful” territory before addressing themes of war, police violence, and surveillance, with an homage to murdered Brazilian activist Marielle Franco, and closing in sections described as “meditative” and “prayer-like.” Clarinet player Jonathan Green appears on multiple tracks. Before redirecting to music in his early twenties, Roush worked as a psychotherapy intake counselor in Philadelphia. The band’s 2025 EP Shadows Grow Fangs was mixed by Nicholas Vernhes, whose credits include Animal Collective, Deerhunter, and Dirty Projectors, and mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Joe LaPorta. Ecce Shnak has also toured with UK band EMF across both coasts and Great Britain, contributing guest vocals to EMF’s single “LGBTQ+ Lover.”
