Diamond Rio at The Showroom at Turning Stone | October 3, 2026

By Marc Delacroix · July 8, 2026

The story of Diamond Rio is, in its way, the story of a particular strain of country music that got squeezed out of radio somewhere around 2006 and never fully found its way back — and kept touring anyway, year after year, to the kinds of audiences who still know every word. Their October appearance at The Showroom at Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona isn’t a comeback. It’s a continuation.

About Diamond Rio

Formed from the Tennessee River Boys — a band that worked the old Opryland theme park in Nashville before anyone was calling them a recording act — Diamond Rio took that name in 1989 and signed with Arista Nashville the following year. In 1991, “Meet in the Middle” became the first debut single by a group in country music history to reach number one. What followed was a sustained run: “How Your Love Makes Me Feel,” “One More Day,” “Beautiful Mess,” “I Believe.” Multiple Grammy nominations followed, including a Grammy win for the album The Reason. They were inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in April 1998 — the first group to receive full membership since The Whites in 1984 — and have remained members in good standing since.

The version of Diamond Rio showing up at Turning Stone in October is worth noting because of something that happened in 2023: the band changed its lineup for the first time in 33 years. Founding drummer Brian Prout and mandolin player Gene Johnson retired; drummer Micah Schweinsberg and fiddle and harmony vocalist Carson McKee stepped in. Their first release as a reconfigured six-piece, “The Kick,” leaned into the bluegrass instrumentation that always ran underneath the country radio surface. Marty Roe described Schweinsberg as bringing “renewed energy to our live performances” — and with 61 tour dates on the 2026 schedule, the band doesn’t appear to be treating this as a wind-down.

About the Venue

The Showroom at Turning Stone Resort Casino sits in Verona, deep in Central New York — roughly the midpoint between Syracuse and Utica. At 5,000 capacity, it’s a destination room: the resort setting, with hotel and casino attached, means audiences tend to make a full night of it rather than a straight in-and-out. For a band with Diamond Rio’s loyal, multi-decade following, it’s a sensible match.
