Caroline Rose spent the fall of 2026 as Modest Mouse’s opener, playing to rooms they probably could have headlined themselves. By March, they are doing exactly that: 26-plus North American dates on the Uncle Carol’s World of Fun Tour, running from late February through May behind a seventh studio album that critics have been calling the best thing they’ve made in years. The tour stops at Higher Ground in South Burlington on Saturday, March 20.
About the Show
Gentling the Horse at the Walt Whitman Mall arrived October 23, 2026 on SUCK Records, Rose’s own label. “I started a record label, and my manager and I get to come up with really experimental ideas, so I’m having fun,” Rose said when announcing it. That freedom is audible. The album was produced by John Congleton and it does not sit still: surf-rock guitar textures against spaghetti Western undertones, memoiristic lyrics about outsiders and people who “find themselves in awkward situations.” Rose describes the source material directly: “Most of these stories are pulled directly from scenes in my own life.”
Singles “Yip Yip Yow,” “Chow Mein,” and “Calm” (described as a sardonic commentary on mental health) rolled out ahead of release, alongside “Hello Again, Jim” and “Valery (please don’t be mad at me).” The record also includes at least one track Rose had been performing live for nearly a decade before recording it. The album blends punk, pop, and alt in ways that resist categorization; KALW put it simply: “You cannot put Caroline Rose into a box. Even Caroline Rose can’t put Caroline Rose into a box.” Alt Revue gave it 9.5 out of 10. Music OMH awarded five stars, calling it “probably their best since 2018’s Loner” and noting its “air of unrestrained chaos.” Long Island, NY-based and now operating their own imprint, Rose is headlining with real momentum. No support acts have been announced for this date.
