Sibling harmony is a different instrument from the kind you build in a rehearsal room. There is history living inside the blend — arguments and reconciliations, songs started in kitchens before anyone thought to call it a career. The Ennis Sisters (Maureen, Karen, and Teresa), raised on the music of Newfoundland and Labrador, have been singing together for over 25 years, and on Wednesday, December 9, they bring their 2026 Christmas show to Kingston Grand Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
About the Show
The evening moves through a range the trio has made distinctly their own: original compositions alongside holiday classics, humorous recitations, and Irish step-dancing woven through the set. Rooted in Celtic tradition and the particular emotional weight of Newfoundland folk music, the show is held together by what the venues that have hosted them describe as “seamless sibling harmonies” and “infectious humour.” Backing them on December 9 are pianist Wade Tarling and Colin Savoie-Levac on banjo, guitar, and percussion.
The sisters are JUNO Award winners who have also earned a SOCAN award and multiple ECMAs and MusicNL honors over a career that traces back to a sold-out debut album launch in 1997 (an event that performer Alan Doyle attended, telling them, “you’ll always remember your first and everything else you will have to measure up to this”). That debut moved over 50,000 copies through physical retail. Their catalog has grown to 14 studio albums, including the most recent, On We Go — produced by Doyle and recorded at the Mallard Inn during pandemic lockdown, a tight, focused session that kept outside musicians to a minimum for the sake of creative spontaneity.
The Ennis Sisters have carried that music well beyond the Canadian touring circuit. They performed at the 75th anniversary of D-Day on Juno Beach in Normandy, one of the more improbable and fitting bookings a Celtic Newfoundland trio could earn. The 2026 Christmas tour stretches from Newfoundland through the Maritimes and into Ontario, a multi-province run through November and December, with Kingston on December 9.
