Alan Cavé built his reputation on a particular kind of unhurried intimacy: Kompa rhythms that move at the pace of the song, not the clock, and vocals that hold a melody like a conversation rather than a performance. Twenty-five years after Se Pa Pou Dat became what he has called “the most popular Haitian song,” the self-styled King of Kompa Love brings his anniversary tour to Place Bell in Laval on Sunday, November 8.
About the Show
The “Se Pa Pou Dat 25|35” tour marks two milestones at once: the 25th anniversary of Cavé’s landmark 2001 solo album — a record the artist described as bridging “cultural, generational, and artistic divides” — and 35 years since his debut with the legendary Kompa band ZIN in 1989. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Haiti, Cavé came from a household built around the arts: his father, Syto Cavé, was a renowned playwright, novelist, actor, director, and lyricist who has occasionally collaborated with him on songs; his mother, Yanick Jean, a painter, poet, and author.
Over a solo career spanning more than 20 albums and his own imprint, AC Records Entertainment & Distribution, he has woven traditional Konpa rhythms together with R&B and zouk influences, singing in English, French, and Haitian Creole — and built an audience well beyond the diaspora, with listeners in Japan, Africa, and South America. Known for soulful vocals and romantic interpretations of the Kompa love style, he has cited “All I Want!” as one of his defining works: “the first song that I created in the compas love style,” he has said, “and it’s also a true story.” His most recent release, Timeless Vol. 2, is described on his site as “a new chapter in Alan Cavé’s career, showcasing his innovative style.” He has collaborated across genres with artists including Malavoi, Mario DeVolcy, and Tanya Saint-Val.
The Laval date is the final stop on a 2026 North American run that included Boston, Elmont’s UBS Arena, Hollywood, FL, Orlando, and New London, CT.
