The guest list for OurHome, Rodrigo y Gabriela’s new album, tells you something about how far two acoustic guitars can travel: Marty Friedman, the former Megadeth guitarist, alongside jazz pianist Hiromi, cellist Hiyori Okuda, and guitarist Yukihiro Atsumi, all captured in Tokyo at NK Sound under producer Dave Sardy. That pairing of metal precision, jazz architecture, and classical timbre is not a novelty project. It follows a logic that Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero have been developing since they were teenagers bonding over heavy metal in Mexico City.
About the Show
The duo built their early reputation busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street — no English, little money, two acoustic guitars — before a career that has since reached the Hollywood Bowl, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Royal Albert Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Glastonbury, and the Sydney Opera House. Their approach filters the speed and power of heavy metal through the technique and discipline of classical and nuevo flamenco guitar, with Quintero’s syncopated, percussive rhythm work and Sánchez’s melodic single-string leads generating, at its best, a complete orchestral texture from two instruments. Their 2019 album Mettavolution won a Grammy.
OurHome — their first studio record since 2023’s In Between Thoughts… A New World — releases September 18 via ATO Records, produced by Dave Sardy (The Who, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and mastered by Stephen Marcussen (Nirvana, R.E.M., the Rolling Stones). The Sherman Theater show arrives six weeks after that release date. Quintero has described the Tokyo recording experience: “There’s something about being [in Japan] that invites you to look inward, to reconnect with who you really are.” The album frames that inquiry as mythology: rogue monsters, celestial birds, stardust, savage landscapes, and the search for belonging, anchored by lead single “Monster,” a six-minute piece with a music video by manga artist Naoki Urasawa, drawn from his psychological thriller of the same name.

Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, PA holds 1,800, which puts a duo that has played the Sydney Opera House and Royal Albert Hall in an unusually close-contact room.
