Charley Crockett brings the Age of the Ram tour to Artpark on Tuesday, September 29 — a western New York date that arrives at a meaningful juncture in this artist’s career. The show supports Age of the Ram, the third and concluding installment of The Sagebrush Trilogy, a concept album cycle on Island Records that has methodically built a case for Crockett as one of the more genuinely serious voices working in contemporary American country. Now that the Trilogy is complete, the live show becomes the argument. Based on the arc of the past few years, it is an argument Crockett is well-positioned to win.

About Charley Crockett

Rolling Stone’s description of Crockett as a “street busker turned critically acclaimed singer-songwriter turned actual country star” compresses a genuinely unusual trajectory into eleven words. Texas-born and shaped by Gulf Coast and Louisiana street corners, he built a following through sheer road accumulation — well before Island Records or a studio budget entered the picture. His self-described “Gulf & Western” sound draws from honky-tonk, Tejano, and old-school country without settling comfortably into any of them, and that restlessness is precisely what makes the records interesting. The collaboration with multi-Grammy-winning producer Shooter Jennings has given the material a conceptual ambition it previously lacked. Age of the Ram completes The Sagebrush Trilogy — a three-album arc that began with Lonesome Drifter in March 2025 and continued through Dollar A Day — and was conceived as a direct homage to Willie Nelson’s Red Headed Stranger, following the story of a rodeo cowboy across its runtime. Rolling Stone placed it among the 25 Best Country and Americana Albums of 2025. The career context: Crockett has headlined Red Rocks Amphitheater twice, performed at the Hollywood Bowl, sold out two nights at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, received a Grammy nomination, and appeared on Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show, NPR’s Tiny Desk, and CBS Saturday Sessions. He is not an artist whose live draw requires a qualifier. He is one of the better shows currently touring in this format, full stop.

About Artpark

Artpark, in Lewiston, is among the more genuinely atmospheric concert settings in the Buffalo / Western NY region. The outdoor amphitheater overlooks the Niagara River Gorge — a backdrop that does exactly what Crockett’s music tends to require: it places the show inside something larger than itself. Late September at this venue means cooling air off the river, shifting light, and the particular quality that comes from watching an artist whose entire sensibility is rooted in landscape play inside a landscape that has actual weight to it. The venue also houses a historic Mainstage Theater; the September 29 show is booked in the amphitheater. Box office: 716.754.4375.
