Pull up the Higher Ground calendar and you will find Fruition on the Showcase Lounge stage on August 6 — and here is the thing that makes this show worth marking: the album they are touring, Something More, does not drop until August 28. You get to hear it live, in an intimate Vermont room, a full three weeks before most people can stream track one.
About Fruition
Fruition is a Portland quintet that has been doing this for nearly two decades, and the road miles show. Jay Cobb Anderson, Kellen Asebroek, and Mimi Naja share lead vocals and songwriting duties — three distinct voices that stack into something genuinely memorable — while Jeff Leonard on bass and Tyler Thompson on drums anchor the whole thing. The band started busking on Portland street corners in 2008 and has since played rooms like Red Rocks and San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall. They call themselves a song band first, blending rock, soul, folk, and pop into what lands loosely under the Americana umbrella.
Something More is their eighth studio album and their first on Bloodshot Records, produced by Grammy winner Tucker Martine — the producer behind records from The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, and First Aid Kit. The first single, “Oh Well,” runs on pedal steel and layered harmonies. The band has described the record as the culmination of almost two decades of making — and unmaking — music together.
The Venue
The Showcase Lounge is the smaller of Higher Ground‘s two stages, located in South Burlington at 1214 Williston Rd. It’s an all-ages event. Doors open at 7:30 PM, show starts at 8:00 PM. For a band whose whole sound is built around three-part vocal harmonies, an intimate room is exactly where you want to catch them.
