George Thorogood has spent more than fifty years making the same unapologetic case: that electric blues played with full-body conviction is its own complete art form, and that the live show, not the studio record, is where that case gets made. The “Baddest Show on Earth” tour, which lands at Tag’s Summer Stage in Big Flats on Saturday, August 29, arrives alongside fresh evidence. The Baddest Show on Earth: Greatest Hits Live, released June 12 on Craft Recordings, pulls from performances spanning 1978 through 2024, including a 1978 Roslyn, New York date and two 1980 Atlanta recordings that had never been released before. It’s a document of what five decades of road work actually sounds like, and the summer dates are the ongoing argument in its favor.
About the Show
Thorogood and the Destroyers headline while 38 Special opens. The Destroyers pull from the catalog that built their reputation: “Bad to the Bone,” “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” “Move It on Over” — songs that tend to play better outdoors, at a reasonable hour, in late summer. Thorogood put the promise plainly when the tour launched: “it’s guaranteed we can make you feel like a teenager again.”
38 Special arrives with something to prove. Milestone (the band’s first studio album in more than twenty years, following 2004’s Drivetrain) features collaborations with Pat Monahan of Train and Randy Bachman of Bachman-Turner Overdrive. Don Barnes, who co-founded the group with Donnie Van Zant and remains its only classic-era member, is fronting a band with fresh material to stand alongside fifty years of hits. What reads as a support slot on paper amounts to a genuine double bill.

Tag’s Summer Stage sits in Big Flats in the Southern Tier, an outdoor venue with a 7,500-person capacity that gives a touring act of this scale room to operate without losing the crowd. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.; the show starts at 7:00 p.m. The venue is cash-only, with ATMs available on-site.
