Keep Flying has spent the better part of a decade playing Vans Warped Tour, SXSW, The FEST, and Great South Bay, and opening for the bands that defined a certain strain of horn-driven East Coast punk: Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Big D and the Kids Table. The six-piece builds its sound around a horn section (saxophone and trombone), which is either a signature or a statement; after a decade of Warped Tour stages, the question has probably answered itself. Their debut full-length, Time & Tide, arrived in April 2025 on Smartpunk Records. For a New York band formed in 2016 that built its following tour by tour, the record is the document that justifies all of it.
About the Show
The December 8 date pairs Keep Flying with Pittsburgh pop punks Eternal Boy in a co-headline. The two bands shared a stage on the 2024 Bowling For Soup tour, so this pairing already has road chemistry. DyingScene’s review of that Chicago stop described Keep Flying’s set as “high-energy” and “entertaining,” noting that members “repeatedly went airborne.” The reviewer’s summary — “exhausted watching Keep Flying, but a good version of exhausted” — is about as honest a live-show endorsement as a music writer can offer. Eternal Boy bring their own catalog; the same review called their set “solid” and flagged a “cheeky cover” of Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” as a highlight.
Time & Tide was produced throughout 2024 during what the band itself describes as a relentless touring schedule, which may account for the record’s urgency, or simply prove that they know no other mode. Nik Bruzzese produced and engineered it; Kris Crummett mastered it. Musically, it layers saxophone and trombone over “pounding percussion and razor-sharp guitars,” while lyrically it covers mental struggle, fleeting joy, life on the margins of the music industry, and societal disillusionment — subject matter the horn section renders approachable rather than heavy-handed.
