NE-YO & Akon at Darien Lake Amphitheater | July 24, 2026

By Marc Delacroix · March 11, 2026

Twenty years ago, a songwriter from Las Vegas — born in Camden, Arkansas — released his debut album under the name Ne-Yo and watched it arrive at number one on the Billboard albums chart. In My Own Words (2006) announced an artist whose value was already established before he ever stepped in front of a crowd: he had co-written Mario’s chart-topping “Let Me Love You” two years earlier, and would go on to deliver Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” and Rihanna’s “Take a Bow” — both of which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. That songwriting legacy, and the R&B catalog that followed it, is what brings Ne-Yo to Darien Lake Amphitheater on Friday, July 24, alongside Senegalese-American singer Akon, for the Nights Like This co-headlining tour.

About the Artists

Live Nation is not billing this as a support-act arrangement — the show runs as a “dynamic back-and-forth set,” two catalogs on equal footing. For Ne-Yo, that means “So Sick,” “Closer,” and “Miss Independent” — the last of which earned him multiple Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Song and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 2009, building on his Best Contemporary R&B Album win for Because of You. His 2026, for what it’s worth, has extended in unexpected directions: a Nashville-recorded country record called Highway 79, a Broadway debut in Alicia Keys’ Hell’s Kitchen, and a Grand Ole Opry appearance — all of which suggests either a genuine creative pivot or simply a busy year. The live show, one suspects, will lean heavily on what made him famous.

Akon arrives with “Smack That,” “Lonely,” and “Right Now (Na Na Na)” — the currency of a Konvicted era that went triple platinum and earned multiple Grammy nominations. His Konvict Muzik and KonLive Distribution labels helped launch Lady Gaga’s career, which is its own kind of industry footnote. The 57-city global run opened in Dublin in April; the Darien Lake date falls mid-U.S. leg, with the tour concluding at Intuit Dome in Inglewood in late August.
