Buju Banton at Bethel Woods | July 12, 2026

By Marc Delacroix · May 7, 2026

The ground at Bethel Woods has heard a lot. It sat beneath some 400,000 people in August of 1969, and in the decades since, the Center for the Arts built on that site has hosted acts ranging from classic rock to symphony to pop — rarely, however, has a booking felt as organically aligned with the spirit of that original gathering as this one. Buju Banton and Stephen Marley co-headline the Roots and Rhymes Tour at the Bethel Woods outdoor pavilion on Sunday, July 12, 2026, with general gates opening at 6:00 PM and showtime at 7:00.

About Buju Banton & Stephen Marley

Buju Banton’s career spans three decades and covers essentially the full arc of modern reggae and dancehall — from raw, street-level material in the early ’90s to the Grammy-winning roots recordings that cemented his international standing, through a period of personal absence that his audience weathered with unusual patience, and into a current chapter defined by some of the most purposeful live performances of his career. He is, by most credible accounts, among the foremost reggae artists working today.

Stephen Marley arrives with eight Grammy Awards and a body of work encompassing both his own recordings and a producing legacy of generational significance. That the two of them — longtime friends and collaborators by their own account — are sharing a stage across 21 dates this summer feels less like a promotional arrangement than something simply overdue. “We have shared a long musical journey,” Marley said in announcing the tour. “It’s always a blessing to get together like this.”

The Bethel Woods date falls midway through the run, the night after a stop in Bridgeport, Connecticut — a point in a summer tour when most acts have found their stride. Gramps Morgan of Morgan Heritage joins as special guest. Two dollars from every ticket sold goes to charity: one dollar to the Ghetto Youths Foundation — the community organization connected to Stephen, Damian, and Julian Marley — and one dollar to the Buju Banton Foundation.
