About Chris Taylor and the Custom Taylor Band
Taylor arrived in Central New York by a roundabout route — born in Owensboro, Kentucky, relocated to Evansville, Indiana through high school, and eventually settled in Liverpool, where he built one of the more durable country acts in the Syracuse corridor. The Custom Taylor Band — Jake Capozzolo on bass, Jon Capozzolo on drums, Marcus Larrabee on lead guitar, Brett Nelson on acoustic, and Travis Reed on keyboards — logs roughly 100 dates a year, a schedule that keeps a band honest in ways that weekend residencies never do.
Their résumé carries genuine weight in regional country circles. The band won the 2010 Syracuse Area Music Award for Best Country Music CD for the 2009 album Down at the Honky Tonk, and their Nashville-recorded Good People — available on iTunes and CD Baby — placed them in a different conversation than the bar-band circuit suggests. They have opened for Big & Rich, Craig Morgan, Mark Chesnutt, Diamond Rio, Joe Diffie, and Tracy Lawrence. They have been fixtures at Big Frog 104’s Wild West FrogFest at the Herkimer County Fairgrounds since at least 2011 — the year Nashville artist Jeff Bates pulled Taylor onstage for a duet mid-set, which is the kind of endorsement you don’t manufacture. The Vine sits off Exit 41 of the New York State Thruway in Waterloo, roughly 45 minutes east of Rochester and 50 minutes west of Syracuse — a location that draws from both markets without being squarely owned by either. The showroom opened in February 2017 and has established itself as one of the better-run mid-size rooms in the region: a flexible floor plan well-suited to standing-room country shows, a modern production rig capable of handling national touring demands, and the kind of resort infrastructure — hotel, casino floor, full amenities — that most standalone theaters can’t match.
