Christone “Kingfish” Ingram comes out of Clarksdale, Mississippi, the city the blues has long claimed as its birthplace, and the music he has built since his teenage years suggests the claim is in good hands. Rolling Stone called him “a rare 21st century guitar hero and the undisputed future of the blues,” which would read as hyperbole in most cases; in Kingfish’s case, the career backstory makes it look cautious. He brings The Hard Road Tour to Electric City in Buffalo on Tuesday, October 13.
About the Show
Hard Road, released September 26, 2025, is Kingfish’s most introspective and ambitious work yet, produced with Tom Hambridge, Patrick “GuitarBoy” Hayes, and Nick Goldston, and exploring what Kingfish calls “love, loss, identity, perseverance, and personal growth.” The album carries a harder sonic edge than his earlier work, pushing into rock and R&B while keeping one foot firmly in the Delta. It is also the first release on Red Zero Records, the independent label Kingfish founded, whose name nods to two Clarksdale institutions: Red’s Juke Joint and the Ground Zero blues club. His stated mission: “I want to give the next generation the resources and visibility they need to shine and to be seen as the stars they are, not as exceptions to the rule.”
His resume, assembled in his early twenties, already includes a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album (for 2021’s 662), a debut that topped Billboard’s Blues Albums chart for 91 weeks, and a Grammy nomination for his Live in London release. He performed at the White House at 14 and spent his late teens on the road with Buddy Guy.
Live, Kingfish builds sets around a guitar style built on fluid, expressive bends and stinging vibrato, absorbed from B.B. King, Albert King, and Buddy Guy and fused with funk, soul, and rock into something that plays across generational lines. At a Chicago stop earlier in this tour, he walked into the crowd to play solos among the front rows. His touring band — keyboardist D’Shawn “DVibes” Alexander, drummer Chris Black, and bassist Paul Rogers — provides the architecture while Kingfish moves through it.
Venue & Logistics
Electric City opened in 2024 in downtown Buffalo’s Theater District, building on the legacy of the former Tralf Music Hall. The venue takes its name from Buffalo’s history as America’s first electrified city, a legacy it traces to Nikola Tesla in 1896, which gives the room a fitting resonance for a guitarist who has been called electric since before he was old enough to vote. Doors open at 7:00 p.m.; show time is 8:00 p.m. This is an all-ages event in western New York.
