David Byrne at SPAC | September 17, 2026

The September 17 date at SPAC lands near the end of the road — two shows from the close of the final North American leg of David Byrne’s Who Is the Sky? tour, with Forest Hills Stadium in Queens wrapping things up on the 19th. That’s not incidental. The Hollywood Bowl got two nights in late August. Upstate New York gets one. It is worth showing up.

About David Byrne

For several decades now David Byrne has operated on a principle that distinguishes him from virtually every other frontman of his generation: he has never stopped working. The Scottish-born co-founder of Talking Heads — Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award winner, author of “Psycho Killer,” “Burning Down the House,” and “Once in a Lifetime” — released Who Is the Sky? on September 5, 2025, his first solo album since 2018’s American Utopia. The record, issued on Matador Records, was produced by Kid Harpoon and arranged by Ghost Train Orchestra, the New York-based chamber ensemble. Collaborators include St. Vincent and Hayley Williams of Paramore — a cast that signals Byrne moving forward, not backward.

The live production deploys 13 musicians, singers, and dancers as a mobile ensemble throughout the performance space — costumes by Belgian artist Tom Van Der Borght, visual design by Shira Inbar. It draws directly from the theatrical vocabulary that defined American Utopia, extended now into new material. The ensemble includes veterans of that earlier touring band, which at this point constitutes a kind of institutional memory for what this format can do when it’s working right.

About SPAC

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center opened in July 1966 inside the 2,400-acre Saratoga Spa State Park — one of the more quietly exceptional settings for a large-scale outdoor concert in the Capital Region. Fixed seating accommodates around 5,200; the lawn opens to considerably more. The park itself — mineral springs, walking trails, the Roosevelt Baths & Spa — is reason enough to arrive an hour early. The venue sits approximately 30 minutes north of Albany via I-87.
