Grace 2: The Tragically Hip is built on a specific premise: that the best tribute to The Tragically Hip is not a greatest-hits set but a faithful reconstruction of what the band actually sounded like when it mattered most. On Friday, September 25, they bring that premise to the Brockville Arts Centre, performing all 30 songs from “A National Celebration,” The Tragically Hip’s final concert, on the 10th anniversary of the August 20, 2016, Kingston show that one third of Canada tuned in to watch.
About the Show
The Man Machine Poem Tour was a 15-date, coast-to-coast farewell that ended at the K-Rock Centre in Kingston, Ontario, with a show that has since become something closer to a shared national memory than a concert. Grace, 2 takes on the full architecture of that evening: all 30 songs, in original sequence, across a two-and-a-half-hour set, with a lineup of special guests joining onstage. The band is clear-eyed about the nature of what they’re offering. “We don’t pretend to be The Hip,” they state plainly. “We are fans of the band, just like you. We don’t imitate, we celebrate.” What that means in practice is channeling the communal energy the music was built around: the shared recognition, the sing-alongs, the weight of songs that have woven themselves into daily Canadian life. Grace, 2 also supports the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund at most of their events, honoring Downie’s own call to action in his final years. The Brockville date arrives in a culturally loaded stretch: The Tragically Hip’s live collection “Live July 22 August 20, 2016,” recorded across the final tour and mixed in Dolby Atmos, releases August 21, 2026, via Universal Music Canada, with CBC rebroadcasting “A National Celebration” the following evening. Grace, 2’s London, Ontario stop on August 21 is already sold out, and the same tour includes two nights at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto in October before continuing through Atlantic Canada.
Venue & Logistics
The Brockville Arts Centre, at 235 King Street West in Brockville, is a theater on the north-country circuit, a properly scaled room for an evening built around collective memory. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show running from 7:30 p.m. through approximately 10 p.m. The evening is all ages.
