John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey are, by any measure, a working musical partnership and a married couple. “The Glory of Love: Married to Jazz” puts both facts to work: the show revisits songs that defined the genre’s great romantic collaborations (Bobby Troup and Julie London, Astrud and João Gilberto, Jackie and Roy, Peggy Lee and Dave Barbour), and the concept lands precisely because the performers have something genuine at stake in the material.
About the Show
Pizzarelli arrives at this program in strong form. His 2026 album Dear Mr. Bennett, a tribute to the late Tony Bennett released in honor of Bennett’s centennial via Green Hill Music, has kept his trio active on stages from Birdland to concert halls across the country. A Grammy Award-winning guitarist and vocalist with more than 30 albums to his credit, he has been described by the Toronto Star as “the genial genius of the guitar.” His trio for this engagement features bassist Mike Karn, a collaborator of a decade’s standing, and pianist Isaiah J. Thompson.
Molaskey brings a Broadway career that spans Sunday in the Park with George, Parade, and the 2025 Lincoln Center production of Floyd Collins, along with a concert presence that has carried her to Carnegie Hall and the Montreal Jazz Festival. The Mahaiwe’s own description credits her with “theatrical elegance and a velvety voice,” which is accurate and, if anything, somewhat understated for what she brings to lyric interpretation.
Together, the two co-host Radio Deluxe, a nationally syndicated weekly program built around the Great American Songbook. The New York Times called the pairing “as good as it gets in any entertainment medium.” The conversational rapport this program demands is one they have been building on air for years. The evening is billed as “witty banter, heartfelt storytelling, and stunning performances” — for this duo, that reads less like a promise than a baseline description.
