Nicky Diamonds at Daryl’s House | January 13, 2027

By Nate Calloway · October 25, 2026

There is a Dobro that Nicky Diamonds carries from show to show — ninety-five years old, worn down by the hands of whoever played it before his. When Diamonds draws a slide across its cone in a small room, the music does not feel performed so much as conducted: something older than him finding its way through.

About the Show

Diamonds — born Nicholas Long, Afro-Indigenous, out of the Oak Cliff area of Dallas and now based in Nashville — writes from a place most contemporary artists only gesture toward. He grew up on a couple of acres tending ponies, raised in a Southern Baptist Church, and the hymn books stayed with him. So did the ancestral narratives his family carried. Critics describe his music as drawing from old-school honky-tonk country, rock and roll, and the pop of the sixties and seventies, delivered in a velvety high-register croon.

His 2024 album Perdido en La Salsa (seven songs, released in March; the title translates as “lost in the sauce”) works through heartache, divorce, and perseverance in a sound built on pedal steel, waltz time, and finger-picked acoustic guitar. Before that record, he fronted Lonely Horse, a San Antonio blues band that signed with an Atlantic Records subsidiary in 2016, before returning to his roots in hill country blues and the country-Americana circuit. After Willie Nelson watched his video for “Tirame un Paro” and invited Diamonds to the 2023 Luck Reunion, the bookings widened: the Pilgrimage Festival in Franklin, Tennessee, where he shared a bill with Alicia Keys; the Black Opry Revue at AmericanaFest; SXSW 2026. He has also released Speak To Me on Alabama Sound Company, a record that moves further into his resonator-and-slide roots. He performs solo, and occasionally brings along his band The Deepcuts. Audiences tend to leave carrying what the billing promises: “a groove stuck in your bones.”
