Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox works from a premise that sounds like a parlor trick: take a song everyone recognizes, strip out the production, and rebuild it in jazz swing until it belongs on a 1940s club stage. What the collective has demonstrated across more than 1,000 performances on six continents is that the reharmonization often reveals something the original buried — a melody that turns out to be stronger than its arrangement, a harmonic sequence that sounds inevitable once the digital polish is gone.
About the Show
The Future Is Vintage World Tour brings a rotating ensemble of singers, dancers, and instrumentalists to Rutland for a program that moves freely across a century of popular music. The repertoire spans ’70s rock classics and ’80s Britpop staples to contemporary chart hits, movie themes, and video game soundtracks, all reimagined through jazz, swing, and the pre-rock idioms that Bradlee has made his trademark across a 56-date North American run.
Bradlee started the project in a Queens, New York basement; Postmodern Jukebox has since accumulated over two billion online views and filled Royal Albert Hall, Radio City Music Hall, and the Sydney Opera House. He has described the animating idea behind this tour as “our own unique vision of a spectacular future; one that is built upon the timeless musical genres of the past and the authentically human spirit of creativity that inspired them.” PMJ’s own materials call its live format “a Saturday Night Live for singers” — an ensemble piece spanning a century of popular music that has cultivated a devoted cross-generational fanbase the group calls “Old Souls” and has helped launch the careers of performers who went on to become recording artists and Broadway stars. No support acts are listed. Vintage attire is encouraged; the show is all ages.
