There is a flag that Steven Cali carries with him from show to show. He found it by the roadside somewhere during those 800-plus performances across 14 states, and he wraps it around his microphone for every set. On Friday, August 21, that flag arrives in Syracuse for Syracuse Country Fest at Middle Ages Beer Hall.

Presented by Visions FCU, the festival aims to close out summer with live country music, line dancing, local vendors, and a mechanical bull. Organizers describe it as “a night built for those who want one more reason to stay out late,” and the evening is built around the Steven Cali Band, the headliner taking the stage at 9:30 p.m.
Cali is an upstate New York native who has spent years road-testing his catalog across 14 states and earning his way onto bills with Jake Owen, Lee Brice, Chase Rice, Warren Zeiders, and Rodney Atkins. He records in Nashville and carries those influences back to Central New York, where he remains a local fixture: a two-time SAMMY Award winner for Best Country at the Syracuse Area Music Awards. His music blends modern country with rock and Americana, and his vocals carry a signature raspy quality that CNY Alive! once described as capable of silencing a packed house. His 2025 single “Way With Timing” has surpassed 312,000 streams; his 2023 EP “Nights To Burn” passed 500,000.
The evening opens early and stays busy. Jonah Ladd, a Cazenovia-based singer-songwriter whose sound runs from country through folk and pop (inspirations include Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan), plays the main bar from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Line dancing lessons with the Shotgun Line Dancers begin at 6:00 p.m., DJ Just Chris takes over for open dancing at 7:00 p.m., and a country mashup set fills the 8:30 p.m. slot before Cali closes the night. A mechanical bull rounds out the programming for anyone who wants to commit fully to the theme.

Middle Ages Beer Hall, the event space at Middle Ages Brewing Company on Wilkinson Street in Central New York, is a working brewery that lends itself to exactly this kind of night: a summer send-off with deep roots and a rowdy edge. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. The event is all ages; anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian.
