When Paul O’Neill founded Trans-Siberian Orchestra in 1996, he articulated an ambition that sounded almost absurd: a progressive rock ensemble that would push the genre “way, way further than any group before it,” performed in arenas, around Christmas, with the full apparatus of rock theater behind it. The 2026 tour marks 30 years of exactly that, and on December 30 the final date of the entire run lands at KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
About the Show
The Ghosts Of Christmas Eve — 30th Anniversary Tour opens November 19 in Green Bay, Wisconsin and spans more than 50 cities across North America, with TSO’s multiple-troupe touring model enabling simultaneous performances in different markets on the same date. The December 30 show at KeyBank Center closes the entire run.
The show follows its two-part structure. The narrative section revisits the “Ghosts Of Christmas Eve” story: a runaway seeks shelter in an abandoned vaudeville theater on Christmas Eve, and the building’s caretaker deploys theatrical spirits to transform her life. Lasers, pyrotechnics, and special effects carry the production. A second set of TSO catalog staples follows, including “Wizards In Winter,” “Mad Russian Christmas,” and “Requiem (The Fifth).” TSO’s signature recording “Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24” ranks as the third best-selling holiday digital single in music history, with over 300 million streams.
Al Pitrelli, TSO’s music director and lead guitarist, has been direct about what the band owes its audience: “Thirty years in, we never take a single person in that audience for granted. With the economy the way that it is right now, it shouldn’t be a mortgage payment for a family to come out to see us. We reimagine the show, we rebuild it, we make it bigger than last year so people come back again.”
O’Neill passed away in April 2017. Pitrelli has pledged to carry the work to younger audiences, and the charity model O’Neill built remains intact: at least $1 from every ticket goes to local charities in each city, and the band has distributed over $20 million to charitable causes since its founding.
