Most tribute acts are built around one strong singer and a backing band willing to dress the part. Tusk operates on a different model entirely. Since 2008, these five founding members, all drawn from the Northwest Jersey music scene and many connected through friendships that predate the band by decades, have logged 90 to 100 shows annually on the strength of the Fleetwood Mac catalog, including international dates in England where they drew crowds of 10,000. They bring that show to The Vine Showroom at del Lago Resort & Casino in Waterloo on Friday, February 26.
About the Show
The organizing principle of Tusk’s approach is a one-to-one correspondence with the classic Fleetwood Mac lineup. Kathy Phillips takes Stevie Nicks’s vocal chair; Scott McDonald handles Lindsey Buckingham on guitar and vocals; Kim Williams covers Christine McVie on keys; Randy Artiglere holds down John McVie’s bass lines; Tom Nelson plays Mick Fleetwood behind the kit. That’s the full Buckingham-Nicks-era configuration, which means the band can reach into the catalog’s real depth rather than cycling through the same handful of songs all night.
The credentials behind each position are not incidental. Nelson holds a master’s degree in music education and served as an adjunct percussion professor at Bucknell University; he has also published a drum method book. Williams spent 25 years as a public school orchestra teacher before the band transitioned to full-time touring around 2018. The band commits to “note-perfect renditions” of both the hits and the deeper cuts spanning Fleetwood Mac’s career, material belonging to a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act whose influence has held across several decades.
The five members’ shared history long predates the band itself. Two met on a Little League baseball field; two found each other in a middle school band room; all have played music together in various configurations for more than four decades. The tagline — “Chemistry. Synergy. Intuition.” — reads like marketing copy, but it is a fair description of what 40-plus years of shared musical life eventually produces on a stage. Venue & Logistics
The Vine Showroom at del Lago Resort & Casino sits in Waterloo, in the Finger Lakes region, and has been voted Gold for Best Night Club in the Finger Lakes. The resort describes the room as “acoustically superior to any other entertainment site in the area.” This is a 21-and-older show, per del Lago’s standard policy for all Vine events. The on-site box office opens at 4 p.m. on show nights.
