Childers, who grew up in Lawrence County, Kentucky, has spent the better part of a decade becoming one of the defining voices in Appalachian-rooted country music. His 2017 breakthrough Purgatory — produced by Sturgill Simpson and carrying the kind of grit that the Nashville mainstream had long since sanded away — established him as something more than a traditionalist making good. He has been consolidating that standing ever since.
The Snipe Hunt run supports Snipe Hunter, Childers’ seventh studio album and his most commercially prominent to date, debuting at number seven on the Billboard 200. The record was produced by Rick Rubin alongside Nick Sanborn and mixed by Shawn Everett, with Childers’ band The Food Stamps providing the foundation across all 13 tracks. Four Grammy nominations followed for the 2026 cycle — including Best Contemporary Country Album, individual track nominations for “Bitin’ List” and “Nose on the Grindstone,” and a Best Country Duo/Group Performance nod for “Love Me Like You Used to Do” with Margo Price. The tour’s scale reflects where Childers currently stands: Wrigley Field, Folsom Field, Climate Pledge Arena. Darien Lake, at 21,600 capacity, fits that slate without apology.
