Higher Ground’s Showcase Lounge is the kind of room where a show feels personal even when the artist could fill something three times the size. South Burlington, Vermont — about 300 people, one of the Northeast’s most reliable clubs. For a Sunday night drive, it is absolutely worth it.
Alex Cameron plays there on Sunday, September 20. Doors at 7:00 PM, show at 7:30 PM. All ages.
About Alex Cameron
The Sydney-born singer-songwriter built his following first in the electronica act Seekae, then solo — releasing Jumping the Shark independently in 2013 before Secretly Canadian reissued it in 2016. His catalog is the kind reviewers keep reaching for Roxy Music, the Velvet Underground, and David Bowie to describe. That is specific company to keep, and it is earned: Cameron’s synth-driven, confessional songs carry theatrical swagger and genuine emotional weight in equal measure.
The 2026 tour is built around Late to Set, his fifth album on Secretly Canadian. The backstory matters: the record grew from nine long-form screenplays Cameron wrote between 2022 and 2025 — work that mostly went nowhere — and material shaped in the aftermath of the LA wildfires. What came out the other side is an album about personal failure, societal decay, and the uncomfortable distance between what is real and what is comfortable. His own framing: “a lie is never funny, but the truth is always funny.”
Live, Cameron moves like an animal on stage — easy with the audience, frequently with saxophonist Roy Malloy beside him. The South Burlington date is part of a 27-date North American run that moves through Philadelphia, Brooklyn, and Durham before heading north.
About the Venue
Higher Ground has anchored South Burlington’s music scene since 1998. The Showcase Lounge is its intimate room — roughly 300 people — and widely regarded as Vermont’s premier mid-sized music club. Cameron in this space on a September Sunday is exactly the kind of show it was built for.
The venue is at 1214 Williston Rd in South Burlington. Straightforward from most North Country access points. If you are making the drive from further south, Burlington is worth building into the trip.
