Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra at The Falcon | May 1, 2026
There are shows you drive to, and then there are shows you talk about for years afterward. When The New Yorker calls an ensemble “one of the best jazz orchestras in existence,” and that ensemble shows up at a venue known as the Village Vanguard of the Hudson Valley — you make the drive.
Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra take the stage at The Falcon in Marlboro on Friday, May 1, 2026. Music starts at 7:30 PM. Dining opens at 5:30 PM if you want to make a full evening of it, which you should.
About Arturo O’Farrill & The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra
Arturo O’Farrill — Mexican American pianist, composer, and bandleader, and son of Cuban jazz legend Chico O’Farrill — founded the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra in 2002. The ensemble is an 18-piece big band anchored by a three-piece Cuban percussion section, built to bridge Afro-Cuban tradition with expansive modern jazz. The repertoire honors Tito Puente and Machito alongside commissioned works from some of today’s most adventurous composers.
O’Farrill is a six-time Grammy winner and two-time Latin Grammy winner with 17 total nominations. DownBeat has called him “one of our greatest living pianists.” The orchestra has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and Boston Symphony Hall — and held a legendary 29-year Sunday residency at Birdland in Manhattan, a run that is now transitioning to City Winery and a new club called The Pocket. The Marlboro date is a standalone regional stop on a busy spring. He is also the founder of Belongó, a nonprofit providing free music education to New York City students since 2007.
About The Falcon
The Falcon is a live music venue and restaurant perched over Marlboro Falls — one of the genuinely special rooms in Hudson Valley concerts. It has earned comparisons to the Village Vanguard for good reason: the music is taken seriously, the room is intimate, and almost every show runs on a donation-based model where 100% of proceeds go directly to the performers. That last detail says everything about the philosophy of the place.
Dining reservations are available and worth booking ahead. Bar seating and a walkup waitlist are also on the table if you prefer to take your chances.
