Carsie Blanton at Colony Woodstock | October 30, 2026

By Nate Calloway · July 15, 2026

There is a moment in a Carsie Blanton song — somewhere between the hook arriving clean and the lyric landing underneath it — where you realize you are not in the presence of someone merely entertaining but someone who has something urgent to say. That quality does not diminish with recorded listening, but live, in a room small enough to watch her face through it, it tends to arrive with considerably more force.

Blanton comes out of Philadelphia with two decades of touring behind her and a songwriting lineage that traces back to the activist-artists: Nina Simone’s refusal to separate beauty from conscience, Woody Guthrie’s gift for making the political feel inevitable rather than instructional. She draws from a wider palette than either of those forebears — there is pop melody in her work, a punk rock looseness she has described as part of the formula alongside “humor” and “a fondness for classic melodies” — but the thread to that earlier tradition holds. You hear it in the way her songs assume the listener is capable of being moved and challenged at the same time.

2026 has been a productive year for Blanton. She is touring heavy alongside two new releases: The Red Album Vol. II and Everything Is Great, titles that seem to understand each other in some sideways way. Tracks like “Little Flame,” “Rich People,” and the gloriously titled “Ugly Nasty Commie Bitch” have found her a new wave of listeners through social media, which means her shows this fall carry that particular charge — longtime devotees who know every word sitting alongside people who found her three weeks ago and are about to discover what she sounds like with a room behind her.

Colony Woodstock is exactly the right size for this kind of music. At 150 capacity, it is the sort of room where you can see a performer’s hands from almost anywhere in it, where there is no real distance between the songwriter and the person listening. The venue sits on Rock City Road in Woodstock — a town whose relationship with American music has long since passed into mythology — and it wears that history without making too much of it, which is exactly the right posture. A bar that takes the music seriously: the only combination that truly matters.

Blanton plays Colony Woodstock in the Hudson Valley on Friday, October 30, 2026, with a 7:00 PM start. The night before Halloween in a town as storied as Woodstock, with a songwriter who has always carried the agitator’s instinct — there is something fitting about that date.

Tickets: $40–$61. Available through Eventbrite.
