Twenty years after their debut in a Richmond basement, Inter Arma brings the 20th Anniversary Tour to Buffalo, and vocalist Mike Paparo hasn’t dressed up the occasion. These are, in his words, “the final shows for the foreseeable future before we retreat back to our dingy practice space to finish album number six.” That framing tells you more about this band than any label bio could: not a victory lap, but a closing argument, honest enough to say so out loud.
About the Show
The tour’s second leg pairs Inter Arma with Chained to the Bottom of the Ocean; the Buffalo date adds One Way Terror (punk) and Cemetery Echo (metal) as local openers, making for a four-band night with actual weight behind it. The quintet (T.J. Childers, Trey Dalton, Joel Moore, Paparo, and Steven Russell) has spent two decades building a catalog that resists easy genre taxonomy: sludge and doom as structural foundations, but with a sense of scope that extends well past the subgenre’s usual horizons. Critics have described their approach as “deeply organic yet still mystical and modern,” a characterization that holds across Sky Burial (2013), Paradise Gallows (2016), Sulphur English (2019), and most recently New Heaven (2024), their fifth studio album. Paparo has confirmed the band will “dust off some rockers that haven’t been heard in well over a decade,” which is the kind of promise that turns passive interest into something more urgent for anyone who has spent serious time with this catalog. Approximately 900 performances into their career, they know exactly where the buried tracks are, and these dates are the last public statement before the band goes dark to finish record number six.
Venue & Logistics
This date relocated from Mohawk Place to Rec Room at 79 W. Chippewa St. in western New York; existing Mohawk Place tickets remain valid at the new venue. At 300 capacity, the room is a fitting setting: Inter Arma in a space this size means no buffer between the band and the room, which is exactly how this music works. Doors open at 7 p.m.; show begins at 8 p.m. This is a 16-and-over event; those under 16 are admitted with a parent or legal guardian. No one under 12 will be admitted.
