About California Guitar Trio
California Guitar Trio has been doing something that sounds like it should not work for 35 years — three acoustic guitars, no vocals, music that moves freely between classical, rock, jazz, surf, and the occasional spaghetti Western — and doing it better than almost anyone else working in that space.
Bert Lams, Tom Griesgraber, and Paul Richards first met in 1987 at Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft courses in England. Four years later they formed CGT in Los Angeles, and they have been touring and recording ever since. A 1995 run supporting King Crimson brought them to a much wider audience, and they have not slowed down since: 21 albums and more than 115 million streams later, they hold a genuinely singular place in instrumental music.
Their music has turned up in Olympic coverage and on CNN, CBS, NBC, and ESPN. NASA used their compositions to wake the crew of Space Shuttle Endeavor — which tells you something about both the reach and the character of what they make. Live, what sets CGT apart is the storytelling and humor woven into the set: audiences consistently describe it as feeling less like a formal concert and more like spending an evening with three extraordinarily gifted friends. Recent releases include the acoustic album Elegy and the live record Live In Scottsdale – On Tour With King Crimson.
The Venue
Daryl’s House is a 300-capacity club at 130 NY-22 in Pawling — right in the Hudson Valley, reachable from the Taconic State Parkway or I-84. At 300 people it is an intimate room, and it has built a reputation for pairing serious artists with a crowd that actually listens. For a trio built on nuance and interplay, that combination matters.
