Camille Thurman with Darrell Green Quartet at The Falcon | April 26, 2026
DownBeat’s description is worth sitting with: “Imagine if Sarah Vaughan played saxophone like Dexter Gordon.” What makes that precise rather than promotional is that Camille Thurman actually inhabits both traditions at the same level — her voice and her tenor saxophone are not two separate careers in uneasy coexistence. They are the same artistic intelligence working through different instruments.
On Sunday, April 26, Thurman brings the Darrell Green Quartet to The Falcon in Marlboro for a 7:30 PM set. This is a donation-based evening, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the performers — the kind of show structure that puts the music at the center of the transaction.
About Camille Thurman
The New York Times called it plainly: “You’re hard-pressed to find rising talents more exciting than Camille Thurman.” That assessment has only grown more defensible. Her tenure as the first woman in 30 years to tour and record full-time internationally with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra — spanning the 2018–2020 season — placed her among the tradition’s active standard-bearers. An NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Jazz Album and sustained recognition in DownBeat’s Critics Poll as a rising star in both tenor saxophone and vocal categories have followed.
The current project, Confluence: Vol. 1, is a collaboration with master drummer Darrell Green recorded during a Fall 2023 Spain tour and released in October 2024. It is the document of a working band — not assembled for the occasion but genuinely road-tested. The full quartet that night: Darrell Green on drums, Wallace Roney Jr. on trumpet, Lonnie Plaxico on bass, and David Bryant on piano.
