About Chuck Ragan
Chuck Ragan has co-fronted Hot Water Music for three decades, which tells you something about where he comes from. But come to his solo shows expecting something different: acoustic energy, gravelly vocals, and a room that ends up singing along whether they planned to or not.
His latest album, Love and Lore (2023), is his first solo record in ten years. He conceived it in 2016, got sidelined by the pandemic and other complications, and finally recorded it in early 2023 with guitarist and pedal steel player Todd Beene, Hot Water Music drummer George Rebelo, and bassist Spencer Duncan. The record digs into relationships, family, and the daily weight of life spent largely on the road. It sounds like a record that earned its runtime.
When he is not touring, Ragan runs a fly-fishing operation in Grass Valley, California. He also organizes the Revival Tour — the traveling folk-punk collective that has included Frank Turner and Brian Fallon. This current North American run covers 17 dates, with a European fall and winter leg to follow. Several German December dates are already sold out. He is not coasting into this tour.
The Venue
Higher Ground’s Showcase Lounge sits inside the full Higher Ground complex on Williston Road in South Burlington — one of the better intimate rooms in the North Country. The full venue holds up to 750, but the Showcase Lounge puts you close to the stage in exactly the way a Chuck Ragan set deserves. Get there at doors.
