Kingston’s Ulster Performing Arts Center hosts something a little different this June. On Sunday, June 14 at 2:00 PM, Dream Studio brings its annual recital — In the Dream Kitchen — to the Broadway theater. If you have a student in the show, you already have your ticket. If you do not, this is still worth knowing about.
About Dream Studio
Dream Studio is a Red Hook–based dance and movement studio founded in 2004. Artistic Director Lara Ganz — trained at New World School of the Arts, adjunct professor at Vassar College, and creator of more than 30 original evening-length works — built it around an inclusive philosophy: accurate technical instruction in a nurturing atmosphere, for all body types and all ages.
The faculty behind this production is legitimately credentialed. Laura Haney teaches the studio’s Ellové program and is a former company member of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago who appeared on Broadway in Fosse. Aaron Barela, who teaches Acro and Contemporary, holds a BFA in Choreography from Arizona State University and has taught at the 92nd Street Y. Dream Studio alumni have gone on to Barnard College, SUNY Purchase, Alvin Ailey intensives, and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago — a track record that reflects the quality of training happening in Red Hook.
In the Dream Kitchen showcases students across Ballet, Tap, Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary, Aerial Arts, Aerial Silks, Musical Theater, Acro, and more.
