Green Jellÿ — the comedy-metal puppet band that turned a children’s fairytale into a No. 17 heavy metal single — brings their deliberately unhinged live show to The Lost Horizon in Syracuse on Saturday, April 17. Loud, ridiculous, and proudly over-the-top: those are the band’s own terms for what they do, and after more than four decades of theatrical spectacle built on wild and crazy characters, props, and punk rock puppets, the show is not mellowing with age.
About the Show
Founded in 1981 in Buffalo, New York by Bill Manspeaker, Green Jellÿ set out with a stated objective that has never really left them: to be “the World’s Worst Band,” compensating for musical limitations through sheer theatrical excess. It worked out differently than that might suggest. “Three Little Pigs,” a heavy metal rendering of the classic fairytale, reached No. 17 on the U.S. charts in 1993 and earned the band a Grammy nomination. The name shifted from Green Jello to Green Jelly under pressure from Kraft Foods, though the pronunciation never changed. The band is currently on an active touring run, with confirmed multi-state dates across 2026 and 2027.
In 2021, Green Jellÿ returned with Garbage Band Kids on Cleopatra Records, their first album in twelve years. The record was built around fan collaboration; Manspeaker described it as “the first album in music history to be recorded by the fans, for the fans.” Guests include “Weird Al” Yankovic, members of Suicidal Tendencies and Fishbone, Kittie, and cast members of Trailer Park Boys. The album cover was designed to mimic classic Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, executed by one of the original series creators, and includes a re-recording of “Three Little Pigs.” The lead single, “Punk Rock Pope,” delivers the comedic metal territory fans expect. The band also holds a Guinness World Record for the most band members in history, with “well over 1000 members worldwide.” No supporting acts are listed for the Syracuse date.
