Greta Van Fleet have spent nearly a decade as the most argued-about band in rock — too derivative for critics, too good live to dismiss outright. Palace for the People, their fourth studio album releasing October 9 via Republic Records, arrives as the argument continues, and the Into the Beginning tour behind it brings them to MVP Arena in Albany on Saturday, March 6, with The Kooks and Luna Li opening.
About the Show
Palace for the People marks Greta Van Fleet’s debut on Republic Records, produced by the band alongside Mike Elizondo. The album’s singles (“Play Your Games,” “Saw You Stand,” and “Tear It Down”) preview a record the band describes as centering on humanity, connection, resilience, and transcendence, built around powerhouse vocals, earth-shaking riffs, and symphonic elements. The band performed “Saw You Stand” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! ahead of the album’s release.
The Into the Beginning tour spans 59 cities across North America and Europe, promoted by Live Nation. The North American leg launches February 3 in Savannah, Georgia, pauses for a European run in May and June, then closes July 31 in Grand Rapids, Michigan — a full-circle return to the state where the band was formed. The Albany stop is part of the North American leg, with The Kooks and Luna Li confirmed as openers.
The Frankenmuth, Michigan outfit consists of siblings Josh Kiszka (vocals), Jake Kiszka (guitar), and Sam Kiszka (bass and keys), with drummer Danny Wagner, who joined in 2013. They broke through in September 2017 when “Highway Tune” topped the Billboard US Mainstream Rock and Active Rock charts for four consecutive weeks, and their follow-up EP won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album. What the band has always done well is translate recorded ambition into something more physical in a live room. At 17,500 capacity, MVP Arena gives that proposition room to prove itself.
