James Taylor at Tanglewood | July 3, 2026

There is a particular kind of quiet that settles over Tanglewood’s great lawn before a James Taylor show — not an anticipatory silence but something more like a collective exhale. People have been coming here, to this summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra nestled in the Lenox woods, for so long to hear this man play that the whole ritual has taken on the feel of a homecoming. For both of them.

Taylor returns to Tanglewood on Friday, July 3, 2026 for the first of two consecutive nights — Night 1 of a back-to-back Fourth of July weekend run — presenting An Evening with James Taylor And His All-Star Band. Show time is 8:00 PM, with gates opening at 5:00 PM.

About James Taylor

It is worth sitting with the number: 45 appearances at Tanglewood. Per setlist.fm, it is the most-performed venue in James Taylor’s entire career — more than any arena, any festival, any other stage in the world. That is not a statistic about a building. That is a relationship, the kind that gets written into a songwriter’s geography the same way a river gets written into a landscape.

Taylor is out this summer with his All-Star Band, and recent setlists from the current tour show nights that reach from his earliest writing — “Rainy Day Man,” “Night Owl” — through the catalog’s deep middle to the songs that have become part of the shared American vocabulary: “Shower the People,” “Copperline,” “Millworker.” He writes melodies you forget you memorized because they arrived so naturally. Night 2 of this run falls on July 4, if the Berkshires hold you over.

About Tanglewood

The Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, set in the Berkshire woods of Lenox, Massachusetts — covered Shed seating and a sprawling lawn offering two different but equally worthwhile ways to spend the same evening. For listeners driving in from the Albany and Capital District area, plan for roughly two to two and a half hours each way, and build in extra time for July 4th weekend traffic on the Berkshire roads. This is a drive worth making early.
