Two albums into an experiment with introspective softness, Kyle Thomas made a correction. MOO, his sixth full-length as King Tuff, landed March 27, 2026, on MUP Records via Thirty Tigers — roughly 35 minutes of garage rock cut on a Tascam 388 tape machine, the same equipment that produced his 2008 debut, Was Dead. The record sounds, according to one reviewer, like something “already been played a hundred times before you even put it on.” Thomas’ own read is less polished: “perfection is shit. However, imperfection is THE shit.” The Big Rock Tour 2026, which pairs Thomas with Philadelphia’s Sheer Mag, makes its Syracuse stop at The Song & Dance on Friday, December 11.
About the Show
Thomas built close to two decades of underground credibility through consistent touring, a stint alongside Ty Segall in the Muggers, and co-founding the supergroup WITCH with J. Mascis. After two records (The Other and Small-Town Stardust) that moved away from his signature sound, MOO swings back toward the territory he established with his 2012 self-titled album and 2014’s Black Moon Spell: tape hiss, immediate riffs, production that resists perfection on principle. Tracks like “Twisted On A Train,” “Invisible Ink,” and “Backroads” have drawn comparisons to The Band, The Byrds, and Tom Petty. Thomas recorded most of the album himself, with drum contributions from Ty Segall, Corey Rose, and Urian Hackney.
Sheer Mag, formed in Philadelphia in 2014 around vocalist Tina Halladay and the Seely brothers, brings a complementary but distinct energy: part Thin Lizzy, part MC5, all hook. Their most recent studio album, Playing Favorites (released March 1, 2024, via Third Man Records), was the band’s first in five years and finds them in populist form, working through ’70s riff structures and garage-punk dynamics in service of songs built to be shouted back. The December leg of the tour runs through December 12 in Amherst, Massachusetts, with Syracuse among its final stops.

The Song & Dance is a 200-capacity bar on East Jefferson Street in downtown Syracuse, one of the more intimate venues in central New York, presented by After Dark Presents. For someone who has spent two decades touring alongside Ty Segall and J. Mascis, a 200-cap room is a specific and correct choice for this material. Doors open at 7:00 p.m., show at 8:00 p.m. The event is 16+; those under 16 are admitted with a parent or legal guardian.
