If you have been waiting for a reason to make it up to Saratoga Springs before summer slips away, here it is: King’s X is playing Putnam Place on Friday, September 4 — Labor Day weekend, right as the city exhales after racing season. That is a good time to be there.
About King’s X
King’s X has been doing their own thing for over four decades, and “their own thing” is genuinely hard to describe in a sentence. The power trio — Dug Pinnick on bass and vocals, Ty Tabor on guitar and vocals, Jerry Gaskill on drums and vocals — blends hard rock and progressive metal with funk, soul, gospel, blues, and traces of British Invasion rock in a way that sounds like nobody else. VH1 ranked them #83 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. They played Woodstock 1994. “A thinking man’s metal band” is the shorthand, but even that undersells it.
In 2022, King’s X released Three Sides of One on InsideOut Music — their 13th studio album and their first new studio material in 14 years. The fact that it arrived sounding this vital is exactly the kind of thing King’s X fans have known to expect since the beginning.
