King’s X at Putnam Place | September 4, 2026

By Marc Delacroix · July 12, 2026

King’s X have spent four decades as one of hard rock’s great almost-famous bands — a power trio revered by other musicians and a devoted cult following while never quite breaking to the size their catalog argued for. What they actually do is harder to file than “hard rock” suggests: progressive runs threaded through funk, gospel, soul, and blues, the sort of thing that earned them a place in VH1’s hard-rock canon and a slot on the Woodstock ’94 stage. That a band with that pedigree is playing the 500-capacity Putnam Place is a booking worth paying attention to. They hit Saratoga Springs on Friday, September 4 — a 21+ show, doors 7:00 PM, set 8:00–11:00 PM.

About King’s X

King’s X has been doing their own thing for over four decades, and “their own thing” is genuinely hard to describe in a sentence. The power trio — Dug Pinnick on bass and vocals, Ty Tabor on guitar and vocals, Jerry Gaskill on drums and vocals — blends hard rock and progressive metal with funk, soul, gospel, blues, and traces of British Invasion rock in a way that sounds like nobody else. VH1 ranked them #83 on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock. They played Woodstock 1994. “A thinking man’s metal band” is the shorthand, but even that undersells it.

In 2022, King’s X released Three Sides of One on InsideOut Music — their 13th studio album and their first new studio material in 14 years. The fact that it arrived sounding this vital is exactly the kind of thing King’s X fans have known to expect since the beginning.
