Lynyrd Skynyrd & Foreigner at SPAC | August 23, 2026

Two of the most durable acts in classic rock share the SPAC stage this August — a co-headline pairing that makes too much sense not to have happened sooner. The Double Trouble Tour lands in Saratoga Springs on Sunday, August 23, with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foreigner splitting a summer evening at one of the region’s defining outdoor venues. Showtime is 6:30 PM.

About Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd has been a complicated proposition for five decades. The Jacksonville, Florida band that defined Southern rock in the early 1970s — “Sweet Home Alabama,” “Free Bird,” “Simple Man,” the full canon — survived a 1977 plane crash that killed founding vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines, and Gaines’ sister Cassie. They reformed in 1987 with Ronnie’s brother Johnny Van Zant on lead vocals and have been touring, with varying degrees of critical enthusiasm, ever since. The March 2023 passing of Gary Rossington — the last surviving original member — removed the final direct link to the band’s founding era. What remains is Johnny Van Zant, Rickey Medlocke, Mark Matejka, Michael Cartellone, and Keith Christopher: a capable outfit that knows exactly what a SPAC crowd came to hear. Expect “That Smell,” “Tuesday’s Gone,” and the obligatory extended closer that has ended shows for going on four decades now.

About Foreigner

Foreigner brings its own layer of complexity. Founded in New York City in 1976 by guitarist Mick Jones, the band spent the late ’70s and early ’80s producing some of the most precisely engineered arena rock ever committed to tape. Jones remains. The voice, however, has been Kelly Hansen’s since 2005, following Lou Gramm’s departure. The band announced a farewell tour in 2023 and, in the long tradition of farewell tours, has continued touring since. None of that diminishes the catalog — “Cold as Ice,” “Urgent,” “I Want to Know What Love Is,” “Hot Blooded,” “Juke Box Hero” — which is bulletproof regardless of who is singing it.

Together, the two acts represent something approaching a century of combined touring experience. The Double Trouble Tour name is either clever marketing or an accurate description of the undertaking, depending on your amphitheater tolerance and how you feel about encores that run past 10 PM on a Sunday.

About the Venue

SPAC — formally the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, now operating under the Albany Med Health System naming rights banner — sits within Saratoga Spa State Park, which means the walk from the parking field to your seat involves pine trees and, on a good August evening, air that actually smells like something other than asphalt. That context matters for a show like this. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s music was always built for spaces with room in them — not acoustic perfection, but scale and open sky. SPAC in late August, with summer stretched thin and the Saratoga racing crowd still drifting through town, can deliver exactly that. For the Albany / Capital District region, this is among the better-positioned bookings of the summer season.
