Here is your Thursday night sorted: Menstrual Tramps at The Song & Dance, doors at 6:00 PM, show at 6:30 PM. A 200-cap room, an all-female Minneapolis hardcore trio that has been doing this since 1998, and three supporting acts. This is exactly the kind of show that sounds better after you have been inside for five minutes than it looked on paper.
About Menstrual Tramps
Menstrual Tramps — Chyna on guitar and vocals, Val on bass, Selena on drums — formed in Minneapolis in 1998 after Chyna and Selena connected over a drummer-wanted flyer at a local punk record store. The lineup settled into its current configuration in the mid-2000s and has been building on that foundation ever since.
Their self-described sound: “femme-punk anthems, fishnets and fury.” That is not marketing copy — it is an accurate readout. Songs like “Americanized Suicide,” “No Heroes,” and “Burn Fucker Burn” run under two minutes and do not waste a second of that time. Their 2006 release No Hesitation, No Defeat is the record to start with — a ten-track DIY document of exactly what hardcore punk sounds like when there is nothing in the room to hide behind.
The band is currently on an East Coast run — they play Detroit on July 29, roll through Syracuse on the 30th, then continue to Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Last year they made their debut at Rebellion Festival in Blackpool, England. They are not a band in mothballs; they are a band on the move.
Supporting the show: The War Lovers, Ice Holez, and Social Sewage.
