Higher Ground’s Showcase Lounge is the kind of room where a band like Oliver Hazard makes complete sense — 300 capacity, close to the stage, and the sort of space where three-part harmonies don’t get lost. Doors open at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, August 4. Show at 8:00 PM. All ages.
About Oliver Hazard
Oliver Hazard is a trio out of Waterville, Ohio: Michael Belazis (vocals, guitar), Devin East (vocals, guitar), and Nate Miner (keys, vocals). The formation story is the kind that sticks — Belazis returned from California, reconnected with childhood friends, and they won a Facebook raffle for one studio session. Instead of recording a single song, they played their entire debut album straight through in one take.
That debut, 34 N. River (2018), earned them “a folk-pop masterpiece” from The Fader. Festival slots at Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam followed. A self-titled second album came in 2023, then Raindrop River in 2024, and this year brings Waterville — an EP named for the Ohio town where it all started.
The description that follows them everywhere: “indie-folk seemingly meant to be accidentally discovered — at a bar somewhere in the Midwest — sung by three earnest, harmonizing musicians, who make you turn your head and feel like not giving up just yet.” Songs like “Hey, Louise” and “Hold On” bear that out. Belazis has talked about a night at Rockwood Music Hall when an entire crowd sang “Hey, Louise” back in unison — that room-wide harmony exchange is exactly what this band is built for, and 300 people is the right number for it to land.
