Rock Voices Albany’s fall season has a specific premise this year: horn bands of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, a genre where ensemble vocals and brass were always the point. The January 9 concert at the Palace Theatre brings 200 voices and a live rock band to the biggest room this ensemble has yet used for an end-of-season show.
About the Show
The concert is titled “Rock Voices Albany Presents: Horn Bands of the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s,” closing out the Albany chapter’s fall 2026 season after twelve weeks of rehearsals building toward a setlist heavy on brass and rhythm. The fall 2026 repertoire draws from Blood Sweat & Tears, Tower of Power, Toto, Peter Gabriel, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Phil Collins, Paul Simon, Gloria Estefan, Steely Dan, and Dolly Parton—all performed in Rock Voices’ radio-friendly arrangements with a professional live rock band. The horn-band theme suits a large ensemble well; Blood Sweat & Tears and Tower of Power built their identity on voicings where the horns carry the melody as often as the lead vocal does.
Rock Voices operates as a no-audition adult choir network, open to anyone 18 and older regardless of music-reading ability, with more than 30 locations across the northeastern United States and Oregon. The Albany chapter has grown into the Capital District’s only community rock choir, now more than 200 members strong. The organization’s stated mission is “healing ourselves and others through song,” and the format backs it: weekly rehearsals over a 12-week session with professional musicians leading the choir, then a ticketed concert with a live band at the close. The January 9 Albany show falls in the second of three coordinated concert weekends, with Rock Voices chapters staging simultaneous performances from Massachusetts to Oregon. It is also the first time the Albany chapter is bringing its seasonal concert to the Palace Theatre.
Venue & Logistics
The Palace Theatre on Clinton Avenue is one of the Capital Region’s primary theatrical venues, a step up from The Egg, where Rock Voices Albany has historically staged its seasonal concerts. At 2,844 seats, the room fits what 200 voices and a live rock band require. The show is Saturday, January 9, 2027, at 7:00 p.m.
