Sarah Borges has been working the Americana circuit for more than two decades, and The Hangar on the Hudson — which last hosted her in January 2023, alongside Miss Tess — wasn’t overthinking the September 19 billing: “Boston rocker Sarah Borges returns.” That’s the whole pitch. It assumes you’ve either heard her before or are overdue.
About the Show
Borges, who is based in the Boston area, built her following on what AllMusic describes as a “passionate, gently gritty mixture of country, blues, and roots rock” — working-class storytelling delivered through a voice that American Songwriter compared to Chrissie Hynde for its swagger, and that AllMusic characterizes as “a full-bodied instrument with a touch of weary vulnerability.” Her debut Silver City established that template, with character portraits the Eventbrite listing for this show calls “emotionally resonant.” The 2007 album Diamonds in the Dark, credited to Sarah Borges and the Broken Singles, ranged across originals and covers by Tom Waits, Greg Cartwright, and X. Her 2009 record The Stars Are Out earned her a Best Emerging Artist nomination from the Americana Music Association; her 2013 album Radio Sweetheart was produced by Los Lobos saxophonist Steve Berlin.
Her most recent album, Together Alone, arrived in February 2022 on Blue Corn Music, produced by Eric “Roscoe” Ambel — whose credits include Joan Jett & the Blackhearts and Steve Earle and the Dukes. It was tracked remotely during pandemic lockdowns, with Borges submitting vocals by phone and Ambel assembling contributions from collaborators including members of NRBQ and The Bottle Rockets. During those lockdowns, Borges also worked as a delivery driver; at least one album track, “She’s a Truck,” drew directly from her time as an airport courier. The result reinforced her standing as, in Rock and Blues Muse’s assessment, “a potent force in contemporary Americana” and a multiple Boston Music Awards winner.
The Troy date arrives as part of an active fall run — confirmed stops through November include the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Daryl’s House in Pawling, the Sellersville Theater in Pennsylvania, and venues in Maryland and Virginia. A special guest has been announced for September 19 but not yet named.

The Hangar on the Hudson, on River Street in Troy, is an outdoor/covered event space with general admission standing and limited perimeter seating that hosts roots, indie, singer-songwriter, and rock programming year-round. It’s part of the Capital Region live music scene. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; the show runs 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.
