If you have been sleeping on the drive to Burlington, August 15th is the nudge you need. Slow Magic is bringing the Emotion Engine Tour to the Showcase Lounge at Higher Ground in South Burlington — an all-ages Saturday night show that puts one of electronic music’s most intriguing projects in an intimate room.
About Slow Magic
The project is exactly what it sounds like: music by your imaginary friend. Slow Magic — who performs behind a neon-splattered deer mask and has kept their identity deliberately obscured for over a decade — makes glo-fi, chillwave, and downtempo music that feels both enormous and personal at the same time.
The catalog stretches from the debut album △ (Triangle) in 2012 through How to Run Away (2014) and Float (2017) — a record described as balancing darkness and light, aggression and gentleness, ecstasy and reflection — to the 2023 album Forgotten Feels, built around loss, nostalgia, escapism, and the kind of hope that lives just past the hard feelings. The sixth album, Emotion Engine, is due this summer, and this tour is built around it. Burlington is near the front of the run — before the summer is out, the dates continue through Somerville, Toronto, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, and Orlando. If you want to catch this before the word spreads, the window is now.
The Venue
The Showcase Lounge at Higher Ground — 1214 Williston Rd, South Burlington — is the kind of room that rewards the drive north. Doors at 7:00 PM, show at 7:30 PM.
