The Song & Dance holds 200 people, and that is exactly how a show like this should be seen. No stadium distance, no binoculars — you’re in the room with the band at a 200-capacity bar venue on East Jefferson Street in downtown Syracuse, and that makes all the difference.
SPACED is a five-piece hardcore band from Buffalo, formed in 2021. Vocalist Lexi Reyngoudt, guitarists Joe Morganti and Donny Arthur, bassist John Vaughan, and drummer Dan McCormick describe what they do as “far-out hardcore” — and that label earns its keep. They pull from The Chameleons, Swervedriver, and My Bloody Valentine, layering psychedelic textures and shoegaze shimmer over a hardcore foundation that never loses its edge. Morganti puts it plainly: “Our sound adds elements of psych and shoegaze to the ethos and foundation of hardcore without diluting it.”
Their 2024 debut LP This Is All We Ever Get came out on Revelation Records, and their No Escape EP followed on Pure Noise Records, produced by Jay Zubricky (Every Time I Die, Terror). They toured North America in early 2024 with Militarie Gun, Spiritual Cramp, and Pool Kids, then took a headline run through the UK. These are not local-circuit moves — this is a band with a national footprint playing a room where you can reach out and touch the stage.
Reyngoudt has been clear about who these shows are for: “I want this record to reach new people and show them that hardcore doesn’t have to just be the tough guys.” If you have been meaning to get back into heavy music, or have never tried it, a 200-cap room in downtown Syracuse on a Friday night is about as good an entry point as you are going to find.
